Print Scaling Calculator

Calculate a copier or document scaling percentage between two sizes, with an optional margin on every target edge.

Your dimensions

On your device

The source document’s full width.

The source document’s full height.

The physical sheet width before margins.

Keep the intended target orientation.

Also applies to the margin.

Enter 0 to use the full sheet. This does not establish your printer’s capabilities.

Fit keeps all content inside the margins. Fill covers the printable area and can crop.

Use a decimal point, without commas. Physical lengths and PPI accept up to 4 decimal places.

Behind the numbers

How the calculation works

Fit scale = min(usable target width ÷ source width, usable target height ÷ source height) × 100%.

The calculation assumes centered placement and uniform scaling. Printer drivers can add margins or their own fit settings. Check a proof before printing a full run.

Results use the numbers you enter. See the methodology for precision, accepted ranges and sharing behavior.

Useful answers

Common questions

Why is A4 to A5 not exactly 70.71%?

Named sheets use rounded whole-millimeter dimensions. Fit compares both actual side ratios, so the limiting axis determines the percentage. For 210 × 297 mm to 148 × 210 mm with no margin, the fit scale is approximately 70.4762%.

Will the percentage override printer margins?

No. Enter the usable margins required by your printer and check its print dialog. A driver’s additional Fit setting can change the final scale after you enter a percentage.
